Meet the Corgi

Did you know the name "Corgi" means "dwarf dog" in Welsh? Despite their small size, Corgis pack in a big personality and plenty of charm!

A Bit of History 📜

The Corgi’s Welsh heritage goes back over 1,000 years! Originally bred to herd cattle, these sturdy little dogs were known for their intelligence and hardworking nature. There are two types of Corgis: the Pembroke (known for having a short or no tail) and the Cardigan (with a long tail). The Pembroke, made famous by Queen Elizabeth II, has gained global popularity! 👑

Personality & Traits 🐾

Corgis are energetic, intelligent, and eager to please. They make wonderful family companions and are especially good with children. 👨‍👩‍👦 Although small, weighing between 22 to 31 pounds (10 to 14 kg), they have a big-dog attitude—confident, sometimes stubborn, and always up for an adventure. Corgis are also alert, making them excellent watchdogs! 👀

Don’t be fooled by their history as herding dogs—Corgis love a good cuddle and thrive on human companionship. 💕 However, their herding instincts can kick in around small kids or other pets, so they might try to “herd” them! 🐑⚠️

Corgi-Specific Needs

With their long backs and short legs, Corgis need extra care to avoid straining their spine. Avoid letting them jump off high furniture, and consider using ramps or steps to make climbing easier. 🛌🚧

These dogs are full of energy, so daily exercise is a must—whether it’s a walk around the block or a fun play session at home. Keeping them mentally and physically stimulated is key to a happy Corgi!

What’s in Their Shopping Cart? 🛒

  • A good brush to maintain their coat and minimize shedding. 🧹
  • Supportive dog ramps or steps to help protect their backs. 🛏️🔝
  • Lightweight harnesses for comfortable walks and outdoor activities. 🌳🎽

What to Skip:

  • High furniture without ramps or steps. 🚫
  • Overly complicated toys—Corgis love a challenge, but prefer puzzles that keep them engaged without frustration. ❌
